Aurora Delgado

August 25, 1925 — January 18, 2009

Aurora Pimentel Delgado, 83, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2009 at her home.

She was born August 3, 1925 in Topeka the daughter of Rafael and Petra (Loya) Pimentel.

Aurora loved music, especially playing the guitar and her family and grandchildren.

She was a volunteer at St. Francis Health Center where she served as a Eucharistic minister.

Aurora was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she served as a Eucharistic minister, sang in the choir and volunteered for the Mexican Fiesta.  She also was a member of the Altar Society, Legion of Mary, Cursillo, Third Order of St. Augustine, American GI Forum Auxiliary and Hayden Mother’s Club.

She was married to Homer P. Delgado on January 9, 1943 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.  He preceded her in death on January 2, 2002 as well as two sons, Daniel Guadalupe Delgado and Richard Daniel Delgado, Sr.  She also was preceded in death by siblings, Raul, Helen, Esperanza, Rita, Gilbert and Ruben.

Aurora is survived by; one son Porfirio Raymond Delgado (Dolores “Lola”) of Topeka, three daughters, Anna Marie Delgado Alcala (David) of Bonner Springs, Monica Ann Delgado Ramirez (Marcus) of Topeka, Mary Ann Delgado Pickering (Bill) of Topeka, five sisters, Lydia Borjon (Jose), Maria “Mary” Crump (Jim), Grace Gonzales (Al), Delores Ruiz and Susan Watson (Roger) all of Topeka, and one half brother, Ralph and four half sisters, Ramona, Ann, Alicia and Kathy.  She is also survived by seventeen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Aurora will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
