Augustine R. Alonzo

Augustine R. “Kookie” Alonzo, 60, of Topeka, died January 17, 2009 at the V.A. Hospital in Leavenworth.

He was born in Topeka, Kansas on December 18, 1948 the son of Henry H. and Jennie (Florez) Alonzo.

Kookie was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as an engineer.  He was a retired Brick Mason and had worked for several companies including Jayhawk Masonry.

He was a member of Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church. 

Kookie is survived by his brothers, Joseph Alonzo of Topeka and Richard Alonzo of Titusville, Florida; his sister, Gloria Alonzo of Independence, Mo., eight nieces and nephews and eleven great nieces and nephews.

He will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Wednesday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Military honors will follow mass and be conducted by Philip Billard Post #1650 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Cremation will follow.  Inurnment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
