Arnie Hidalgo, 75, of Topeka, died January 3, 2009 at Midland Hospice House.
He was born in Topeka, Kansas on April 17, 1933 the son of Refugio and Sanjuanita (Cisneros) Hidalgo.
Arnie studied drafting at Washburn University. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Arnie was retired from the Santa Fe Railway where he had been a Freight and Passenger Carman.
He was a member of the Catholic Faith and was a former member of the Masonic Lodge #17.
Arnie enjoyed playing the guitar, listening to music and was an avid reader.
He married Antonia Munoz in Topeka, Kansas in February of 1957. She survives. He is also survived by his children: Alicia D’Orazio (Mario) of Lavonia, Michigan; Roseann Hidalgo of Topeka, Roman Hidalgo (Mayela) of Topeka; Arlene Huffman (Johnny) of Wakarusa, Ks.; James Hidalgo and Alec Hidalgo both of Denver, Co.; Loraine Bockus of Phoenix, AZ.; and Eva Lorson of Topeka; two sisters: Hilda Delgado of Hammond, Indiana and Maria Antusis of LaGrange, Illinois; twenty grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Arnie was preceded in death by a daughter Phyllis Hidalgo Munoz on October 30, 1989.
He will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and a Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be conducted by Pastor David Deck on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment with military honors will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
