Martha C. Shanley

Martha C. “Marti” Shanley, age 63, of Hoyt, passed away Monday October 20, 2008 at her home.

She was born March 22, 1945 in Topeka the daughter of Philip and Mary (Puhl) Habig.  Martha attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Hayden High School in 1963.

Marti enjoyed volleyball, working in her yard and spending time with her grandchildren.  She belonged to a coffee club for over 20 years and a bowling league.

She was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Marti was married to Alvin E. Shanley on September 21, 1968 in Topeka.  He preceded her in death on November 14, 1997.  She also was preceded in death by brothers Philip Habig, Jr. and Jerome Habig and sisters Mary Habig and Theresa Schiffelbein.

She is survived by; a son Ron Shanley of Hoyt, daughter Kim Clements (Brad) of Hoyt, step-son Kevin Shanley (Julie) of Edina, MO, step-daughter Karen Shanley of Memphis, MO, brothers, Frank, Vince, Chuck, and Joe Habig and sisters, Millie Plemons, Cecilia Umscheid, Lori Bayless, Kathy Elersic and Dolly Truhe.  Two grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and three step great grandchildren also survive.

Marti will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a parish rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Martha Shanley Memorial Fund to be designated by the family at a later date and sent in care of the Kansas Super Chief Credit Union, 811 NW 25th, Topeka, 66618.
