Raymond R. Brown

February 26, 1940 — October 13, 2008

Raymond R. “Dick” Brown, 68, passed away Monday, October 13, 2008 at Midland Hospice.  He was born to Byron P. Sr. (Joe) and Bertha E. Brown on February 26, 1940 in Topeka KS, the eldest of eight children.  Dick graduated in 1958 from Seaman Rural High School and had attended Dodge City Junior College, Dodge City, KS.  He retired in September, 2003 from the Topeka Capital-Journal.  Dick had worked there one month shy of 44 years.  He was a member of the Mater Dei Parish.

 

Dick and Mary J. Cropp were married on October 19, 1963.  She survives of the home.  Also surviving are daughters, Robin Brown and Rhonda Burghart (John); grandchildren, Jordan Maxwell, Eric Brown, Devin Burghart-Martin and Baylie Martin; three sisters, Sharon Shaw (Jerry), Mary Willett (Raymond) and Martha Pence (Lyle); three brothers, Larry Brown, Dennis Brown (Becky), Rifle, CO and Byron  Brown Jr. (Loretta); two brothers-in-laws, Don Shaw, Tecumseh, and Russell Cropp (Kathy).  Dick is also survived by his in-laws, Dee & Marjorie Cropp, aunts, an uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Georgia Shaw and two nieces, Debra Senne and Laura Shaw.

 

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mater Dei Assumption Catholic Church, 8th & Jackson, Topeka.  Visitation with family and friends will be from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Thursday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Street, Topeka.  Private burial of cremains will be at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Police Athletic League Program, 432 SE Norwood, Topeka, KS 66607.
