Catherine H. Bradley, 86, of Topeka died October 7, 2008 at Aldersgate Village.
She was born on January 27, 1922 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of William and Ann (Heenan) Brennan. Catherine graduated from Loretto High School and graduated from St. Bernard’s School of Nursing in Chicago, Illinois. She received her last year of training in Leavenworth, Kansas where she met her husband Thomas Scott Bradley. They were married on April 19, 1947 in Topeka where she remained. Catherine was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Kansas State Nursing Association. When her children were young she was a leader for their Cub and Girl Scout Troops. In her leisure time she enjoyed spending time at her cabin in Council Grove. She was employed by St. Francis Hospital and retired with 25 years of service from Topeka State Hospital. Her husband preceded her in death on December 21, 1990. She was also preceded in death by her brother Dr. William Brennan of Fort Myers, Florida. She is survived by her three sons, Thomas Scott Bradley Jr. and wife, Mary, of Kansas City, MO, William Bradley and wife, Lynn, of Aransas Pass, TX, Charles Bradley and wife, Ruby, of Ozawkie, and one daughter Gail Dodds, and husband, Don, of Topeka; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all who had the good fortune to know her.
Catherine will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 17th & Stone. Graveside Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery.
