Caroline Ann Putthoff

            Caroline Ann (Albright) Putthoff, 89, of Meriden, Kan., died Sept 5, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital in Topeka.

            Caroline was born July 7, 1919, in Topeka, Kan., to Michael and Celestia (Boehm) Albright and passed away surrounded by family.

            She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka, Kan., and was a graduate of Topeka Catholic High School in 1938. After graduation, she followed in her father’s footsteps and began working at Santa Fe Railroad in 1942, where she was a member of the Business Girls sorority.

            On May 24, 1952, Caroline married Lewis H. Putthoff, at Holy Name Catholic Church in Topeka. They made their first home in Valley Falls, where they began their family. Caroline and Lewis moved to their home in Meriden in 1957 where they raised crops, livestock and their growing family. She and Lewis were members of the St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden.

            Caroline was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, working in the garden, canning vegetables, baking and listening to her radio programs.

            Caroline was preceded in death by her daughter Rose Marie Putthoff; her parents, Michael and Celestia Albright; her parents-in-law, Henry and Anna Putthoff; her brother, Ralph Albright; her sister and brother-in-law Howard and Celeste (Albright) Buschle; her brothers-in-law Jim Zeller and Jack Buschle; and her son-in-law Virgil Ricks.

            Caroline is survived by her husband, Lewis Putthoff of Meriden; her children, Chris and Gwen Putthoff; and Steve and Linda Putthoff all of Meriden; Jolene and Ryan Gier of Valley Falls; Patty Ricks and Steve Mayberry of Rossville; and Jeanne and Tom Figgs of Maple Hill. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

            Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Meriden. Graveside services will be held at the St. Aloysius Catholic Cemetery in Meriden.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities or the Jefferson County Home Health Department and sent in care of the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, KS 66603.
