Esther Marie McMillen

Esther Marie McMillen, 84, of Topeka, died August 1, 2008. 

Born October 27th 1923, the oldest daughter of Elmer and Ester Wagner  of

Topeka, both deceased.  She had two sisters Geraldine Bicknell of  Auburn, KS

and Ruth Domme deceased. 

Marie was a Topeka resident all her life.  She attended Topeka schools  and

was married to her first husband Robert W. Domme.  They had four  children;

Portia Shopteese of Mayetta who had three children one deceased, Carol  Anne

Norton of Woodland, UT, with three children, Robert C. Domme of Topeka with  one

child and William F. Domme of Topeka with four children.  Marie was  blessed

with ten grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.  Marie was  a Girl

Scout leader, Boy Scout leader, active member of St. Matthew Catholic  Church, and

the Jeffersonian Club of Topeka.  She retired from Pepsi Cola  and was an

active member of the Shriner's with her second husband Howard C.  McMillen.  They

were married for twenty-five years.  He preceded her  in death in 1996. 

Marie loved to read books and play bingo at the  Shrine.  She was a member of a

sewing group that made blankets and gowns  for the Shriner's hospital for many

years. 

Our mother was a kind, thoughtful, loving, understanding, wonderful warm 

person who could smile and light up the darkness.  She was the rock our  family

was built on.  She was also our best friend and she will be greatly  missed by

all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many friends  and

she will never be forgotten. 

Marie will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 

2:00 p.m. where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

and  the family will receive friends from 5 - 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian 

Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic 

Church.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
