Veronica S. “Bonnie” Campbell was born in Lexington, KY on June 19, 1923, the daughter of Michael Joseph and Margaret Haney Scanlon, Sr. She was a 1941 graduate of Henry Clay High School in Lexington, KY. She died peacefully at home on May 26, 2008.
Bonnie worked as a sales representative for Lexington Telephone Company prior to moving to Topeka. While in Topeka, she worked as a customer service representative for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
Mrs. Campbell was a charter member of Christ the King Catholic Church, Life Member of Telephone Pioneers of America and the University of Kentucky Alumni Association, Washburn Walkers, Health Wise 55, St. Francis Auxiliary and was a volunteer for St. Francis Health Center for 12 years where she contributed over 5,000 hours.
She married Miller T. Campbell in Lexington, KY on October 27, 1945. He survives.
Other survivors include: Michael and wife Tonya Campbell of Topeka, Alice and husband Ron Marshall of Topeka , Mary and husband Randy Anspaugh of Overland Park, KS, Joyce and husband Ray Cunningham of Akron, OH, twelve grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday after 3:00 p.m. where a parish rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Bonnie will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Health Center Foundation – Children’s Miracle Network and Heart of America Hospice sent in care of the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave, 66603.
