Frederick Arthur “Fred” Rhoads, Sr., 81, of Topeka, passed away Friday May 16, 2008 at St. Francis Health Center.
He was born March 23, 1927 near Lebo the son of Arthur Isaac and Kathryn Jones Rhoads. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.
Fred owned an antique store in Denver before he retired. He enjoyed family activities, hunting, fishing, going to garage sales and refinishing antiques.
He was a member of Mater Dei Catholic Parish.
Fred was married to Barbara J. Brosemer on August 5, 1950 in Strong City. She survives.
Other survivors include; three sons, Michael Alan Rhoads and his wife Christine, Robert Lee Rhoads and his wife Amy and Frederick Arthur Rhoads, Jr. and his wife Carole all of Topeka, one daughter, Janet Leigh Johnson and her husband Thomas of Arvada, CO, and three brothers, John and William of Topeka, and Richard Rhoads of Emporia. Thirteen grandchildren and eight great grand children also survive. He was preceded in death by a son Joseph Mark Rhoads who died shortly after birth, three brothers, Raymond, Robert and Wayne and two sisters, Rosie Gavin and Anna May.
Mr. Rhoads will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A Parish Prayer Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Mater Dei’s Holy Name Church. Interment will be in Lebo, Kansas.
