Dorothy Jane Sommers

July 19, 1927 — May 7, 2008

Dorothy Jane Sommers, 80, of Topeka, died May 7, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital.

 

She was born in Topeka, Kansas on July 19, 1927 the daughter of Ralph and Mary (Burghart) Sommers.

 

Dorothy worked as a file clerk for Blue Cross and Blue Shield and had also worked for Halls Lithograph as a proofreader.

 

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle #503. 

 

Dorothy is survived by three sisters, Mildred Crownover of Miami, Florida, Betty Debacker and Bridget Foster both of Topeka.  She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers; George Schoenfeldt, Pete Schoenfeldt, Joe Sommers and Mike Sommers, and seven sisters, Marie Sommers, Barbara Burghart, Catherine Harkins, Joann Debacker, Sr. Agnes Claire, Annie Sommers and Helen Sommers. 

 

Ms. Sommers will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. where a Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Parish Rosary at 6:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 West Sixth Ave., Topeka, Kansas  66603.
