Thomas R. Baer Sr., 90, of Topeka, died April 30, 2008 at Lexington Park Nursing Facility.
He was born on June 16, 1917 at Woonsocket, South Dakota the son of B. W. and Blanche Smith Baer.
Mr. Baer retired in 1973 from the U.S. Air Force as a TSgt. where he was a career military man. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After his retirement he worked for the State of Kansas as an administrator for the Y-Cat Program.
He was a member of Mater Dei’s Holy Name Parish and the American Legion. Thomas enjoyed reading especially western and mystery novels.
Thomas married Doris I. Turk on November 29, 1947 at Holy Name Church in Topeka. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2007. He was also predeceased by a daughter, Bonnie Jean Hupp on February 19, 2006.
Survivors include his three son, Thomas R. Baer Jr. of Topeka, David P. Baer of Beverly, Massachusetts, and Donald Baer of Topeka, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mr. Baer will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5-6 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Mater Dei’s Holy Name Parish. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with military honors.
