Joseph Francis Paternoster, 75, of Topeka, died April 24, 2008 at the V.A. Hospital.
He was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 26, 1932 the son of Ivan Joseph and Ethel Marcella (Lawson) Paternoster.
Joseph served in the U.S. Air Force for five years.
He worked in the parts department of Greyhound in Chicago, and also worked for Montgomery Ward and GMC. He retired from Montgomery Wards in Topeka where he has been a shipping clerk for the parts department. He also was a life guard, and had been a security guard at the Heartland Park Race Track.
He enjoyed painting by numbers, making model cars, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren.
Joseph married Geneva Esther Kippes at St. Joseph Church on June 2, 1956. She survives. He is also survived by three sons, Daniel (Donna) Paternoster of Hiawatha, Ks., Steve Paternoster of Topeka, Rick Paternoster of Colorado Springs, Co., and a daughter Mary (Michael) Carter of Topeka, twelve grandchildren, and five sisters; Patsy, Annie, Celeste, Margaret and Charlene “Charlie”. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tony Carter.
Mr. Paternoster was cremated. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Midland Hospice Care and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 West Sixth Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
