Sophia A. (Kaberline) Hladky, 73, passed away Sunday, April 13, at her home.
Sophia was born on July 11, 1934 in Topeka, the daughter of John and Elizabeth (Schwerdt) Kaberline.
Sophia enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, crocheting, reading, camping and baking.
She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle since 1953 holding the offices of Outer Guard, Custodian, Scribe, Financial Secretary, Vice Regent, Regent, Past Regent, Welfare Chairman, Parliamentarian and Social Chairman. She was also a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society at the church where she had been a past President. She was also President of the Archdiocese Council of Catholic Women. Sophia was a leader of the Campfire Girls for 12 years and on many committees including the Candy Cupboard for 10 years and served as a Board Member for two years.
She worked at Hayden in the School Food Service for 15 years retiring in 1993. She was President of the School Food Service Organization Chapter #2 Shaw Wa, and was Vice President of the Retired School Food Service Workers in 1998 and President in 1999. Sophia and her husband Don were volunteers at Let’s Help from 1993 to 2007.
She married Donald L. Hladky on October 24, 1953 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2007. Four children survive, Juanita Wymore of Topeka, Mary Dreasher and husband Mike of Topeka, Donald Hladky Jr. and wife Susan of Wentzville, Mo., and John Hladky of Topeka, and seven grandchildren, Hellen, Noni, Aubrey, James, Matthew, J.R., and Danielle. She is also survived by two brothers, Jerome Kaberline and wife Beatrice and Francis Kaberline all of Topeka, and a sister Betty Schell and husband Larry of Bartos, California.
Sophia will lie in state on Thursday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home after 2:00 p.m. where a Daughters of Isabella Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
