Carmen H. Rodriguez, 80, of Topeka, died March 8, 2008 at Plaza West Health Center.
She was born on November 9, 1927 in Topeka, the daughter of Camilo and Isabella (Hernandez) Rodriguez.
Carmen was an elevator operator for the Kansan Hotel and the Jayhawk Hotel before she became disabled.
Carmen enjoyed playing softball, music and doing Swedish work.
She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and L.U.L.A.C.
Carmen was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Guadalupe Rodriguez, Concha Tiscarenio and Sara Gomez and by her brothers, Frank, Jesse, Tony, Brigido and Joe Rodriguez. She was the last of her generation.
She is survived by nieces; Gloria Rodriguez, Clara Cordero, Catherine Luna, Delores Gonzales, Patty Mendez, Veronica Padilla,
Sylvia Champney, Rebecca Jackson, Margie Martinez, Martha Hill and Isabel Wright and nephews; Joey, Chris Gomez, Arthur, Danny, Richard, Michael and Joe Rodriguez, Frank and Camilo Tiscarenio. Also surviving are many great, great-great, and great-great-great nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many.
Carmen will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where the following rosaries will be prayed, Legion of Mary at 5:30 p.m., Parish at 6:00 p.m. and Scriptural at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
