Marcella Arkenberg, 95, of Topeka, died March 6, 2008 at Midland Hospice House.
She was born in Topeka, Kansas on May 14, 1912 the daughter of George and Rose (Hefner) Herschfeldt.
Marcella worked for the Woolworth Company in the executive offices in New York City and in the Woolworth Store in Topeka. After her children were born she was a homemaker.
She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
Marcella married John Henry Arkenberg on July 22, 1935 in Topeka, Kansas. He predeceased her on January 16, 1979. She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael G. Arkenberg on June 2, 1994.
Survivors include her son, John B. Arkenberg and wife Rebecca of Stratford, Conn., her daughter, Rosemarie Thompson and husband David of Olathe, Ks. and eight grandchildren; Haley Sarpolus, Tracy Baker, Jeff Arkenberg, Christine Baker, Logan Arkenberg, Gordon Arkenberg, Keith Arkenberg and Paul Arkenberg.
Marcella will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
