Gary Tompkins

August 3, 1950 — March 4, 2008

Gary Lee Tompkins, 57, of Topeka, died March 4, 2008 at Providence Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born in Topeka, Kansas on August 3, 1950 the son of Harry and Dora (Landon) Tompkins. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. Gary was a pipefitter for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company for 30 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Gary married Deborah Padgett on May 26, 1973 in Topeka, Kansas. She survives. He is also survived by his mother, Dora Tompkins of Topeka; four daughters; Jennifer Bicknell and her husband John of Topeka, Rebecca Dice and her husband Steve of Spring Hill, Ks., Kimberly Tompkins of Winchester, Ks., and LeAnn Deters and her husband Ryan of Topeka, and five granddaughters, Kayla Hutzell, Bailey Bicknell, Emma Bicknell, Taylor Dice and Paityn Dice. Gary will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Friday after 2:00 p.m. where a parish rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6-7 p.m. Private Graveside Services will be held on Saturday at Mount Calvary Cemetery.
