Rosanna B. “Rosie” Mathewson, 80, of Topeka, passed away Monday, February 25, 2008 at Specialty Hospital of Mid America in Overland Park.
She was born December 26, 1927 in Seneca, the daughter of Clement Henry and Nellie Farley Dalsing.
Rosanna was employed by Montgomery Ward for twenty years before she retired in 1989. After her retirement she enjoyed playing bingo, bowling, watching the Kansas City Royals, working in her yard and being involved in the activities of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church.
Rosanna was married to Elmer B. Mathewson on January 18, 1954 in Seneca. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1984. She was also preceded in death by; two sisters, Mary McDonnell and Margaret “Peggy” Dalsing and four brothers, Raphael, Wilford, Edward, and Paul Dalsing.
She is survived by; two sons, Michael H. Mathewson and James B. Mathewson and wife Kim, and a daughter Donna Hunninghake and husband Raymond all of Topeka. Eight grandchildren; Jason, Jessica, Rebecca, Christopher, Stephanie, Kristin, Shelby and Bradley and six great grandchildren also survive.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Saint Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Mathewson will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a vigil prayer service will be held at 5:00 p.m. followed by a rosary at 5:30 p.m. where the family will receive friends until 7:00 p.m.
