Magdalene Mullens

Magdalene Fergel Mullens, 98, of Topeka, passed away Friday, January 25, 2008 at McCrite Plaza Care Center.

She was born July 11, 1909 in Richland, the daughter of Thomas Fergel, Sr. and Margaret Lutz Fergel.  She was the last of eleven children.

Mrs. Mullens was employed in retail sales at the Grace Shop for many years before she retired.

Magdalene resided at Atria Hearthstone for the past several years.  She looked forward to visits from her nieces, great nieces and nephews and special friends.  She especially enjoyed spending time with her great nieces,  Mary Ann (David) Mann of Topeka, Tanna Breece of Alexandria, Louisiana and Joyce (Richard) Ebert of Topeka who visited her often.

Mrs. Mullens was married to Walter R. Mullens on May 10, 1945 in Lawrence.  He preceded her in death January 16, 2003.  She was also predeceased by an infant son, Stanley in 1948.

Survivors include five nieces; Freda Gurss of Topeka, Alberta (Bill) Breece of Topeka, Virginia Rusch of Topeka, Kay (Tony) Weiler of Virginia, and Gladys Veldhuizen of Bensonville, Illinois, one nephew Kenneth Fergel of Berryton, Kansas and several great nieces and great nephews.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Mount Hope Cemetery Chapel.  Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.
