James O. Ennis

James O. Ennis, 80, of Topeka, died January 19, 2008 at the Colmery O’Neil V.A. Medical Center. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on January 21, 1927 the son of Charles F. and Jessie Gertrude (Ellis) Ennis. James served in the United States Air Force and later in the U.S. Army. He was in World War II and the Korean Conflict and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was self employed in the construction industry, specializing in carpentry. James was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. He married Genevieve Wanstrath who survives him of the home. He is also survived by one daughter Karen Etzel of Topeka, six grandchildren; John Etzel, Michael Etzel, Sarah Etzel Funk, Elizabeth Etzel Turner and Matthew Etzel; six great grandchildren and a sister Margie J. Smith and her husband Elmer of Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Ennis was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters, Margie Ann Ennis on February 25, 1976 and Mary Elizabeth Ennis on July 15, 1952, and a brother Charles R. Ennis in 1997. Mr. Ennis will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. where a Parish Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
