Joan Rebekah (Houston) Mack died January 19, 2008 at the Rossville Valley Manor. She was born in Warren Arkansas on October 15, 1917 the daughter of William and Beatrice (Reeves) Houston. Joan was a Practical Nurse for St. Francis prior to her retirement. She enjoyed being a homemaker, sewing, quilting and doing crafts. She was a member of Mater Dei’s Assumption Catholic Parish and also attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Scranton, Kansas. Joan married Lance L. Mack in July of 1944. He preceded her in death on December 2, 1971. A daughter Julia Mack also preceded her in death. Survivors include her son Joe Mack and wife Cathy of Topeka, three daughters; Nancy Urban of Carbondale, Martha Mack of Topeka and Bridget Mack of Wichita, Kansas, thirteen grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. Joan will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Wednesday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5-6:30 p.m. and a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Mater Dei’s Assumption Parish. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
