Randy Glen “Smootie” Smoot, 54, Topeka, passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2008. Randy was born January 10, 1953 in Topeka, the son of the late Glen E. and Emma Jean (Lorance) Smoot. He spent his whole life in Topeka attending various schools and graduating from Topeka High School. Randy retired from the City of Topeka Water Department. He was well known for his volunteering to Special Olympics, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Joseph Catholic Church and Let’s Help. Randy enjoyed his grandson’s quarter midget racing. He also had a love of racing and spent numerous years fulfilling this hobby with his own race car. Randy played in a band and was enjoying that Monday night when he suffered a heart attack. He played drums with the band, Rick & The Wagon Masters. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #2608. Randy was married to Robin Bagby on December 1, 1974 in Topeka. She survives.Other survivors include two sons; Jason Smoot and his wife Lorrie of Topeka and Michael “Mikey” Smoot of the home, and grandson Joshua Smoot. He is also survived by a brother Kevin and wife Ginger of Tecumseh and a sister Susie Smoot of Topeka and numerous nieces and nephews and five great nieces and nephews as well as many other relatives who loved him dearly. Mr. Smoot will lie in state at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Friday after 5:00 p.m. where a Parish and Knights of Columbus Council #2608 Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Twin Mound Cemetery, rural Douglas County, Kansas.
