Lillian M. Desch, 90, of Topeka, entered into rest on December 15, 2007 at the Midland Hospice House surrounded by her family. She was born on December 29, 1916 in Valley Falls, Kansas the daughter of Edward and Mary (Kelly) Stein. Prior to her marriage Lillian worked for Santa Fe Railway Company and at Morrell’s. She and her husband were co-owners of Desch Liquor Store. Lillian married Sylvester J. Desch at the Assumption Church in Topeka, Kansas on May 20, 1941 and celebrated 62 years of marriage. He predeceased her on May 16, 2004. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Stephen J. Desch on February 28, 1994 and Kenny Desch on November 24, 2004. Lillian and her husband were charter members of St. Matthew Catholic Church where she was also a member of the Altar Society. She was a past member of the Hayden Mother’s Club. Lillian will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and a caregiver to others. Survivors include five daughters, Shirley Fitzgibbons, Marilyn Dechand Delores (Tom) Enns and Sue Carney all of Topeka and Rose Dechand of Lawrence, a brother Kelly Stein, two sisters, Fern Goodwin and Dee Hrenchir, fourteen grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. Mrs. Desch was cremated. A Memorial Visitation will be held at St. Matthew Catholic Church on Friday where the family will receive friends from 9-11 a.m. followed by a Memorial Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be held later at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
