Seraphina Escalante

Seraphina Escalante, 80, of Topeka, died November 8, 2007 at Stormont-Vail Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma on April 12, 1927 the daughter of Abraham and Mary Columbus.  She was one of twelve children.

Seraphina worked for McCrite Plaza Retirement Center in housekeeping and was most recently a greeter for Walmart the past thirteen years.  She will be remembered for her love of her grandchildren, gardening and shopping.

Seraphina married Thomas Escalante Sr. on June 11, 1946 in Topeka.  He predeceased her on February 16, 2005.

Survivors include three sons, Thomas C. Escalante Jr. and wife Alice, Robert A. Escalante and wife Brenda, and Daniel J. Escalante all of Topeka; two daughters, Jennifer D. Bardsley of Topeka and Jacqueline S. Gardner and husband Guy of Berryton, eleven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.  She is also survived by a brother, George Columbus of Shawnee, Oklahoma.  She was preceded in death by ten siblings.

Mrs. Escalante will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Sunday where the family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 p.m.  Services will be held on Monday at 11:00 a.m. at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home with interment following in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
