Catherine E. Howell

Catherine Elizabeth Howell passed away Thursday, October 11, 2007, in Overland Park, Kansas, with her children beside her. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 15, at Mater Dei’s Assumption Church in Topeka, at 10:00 a.m., with a rosary before at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery of Topeka.Catherine was born January 5, 1913, at Emmett, Kansas, the daughter of Joseph and Ellen McNeive. She married Roger Howell on October 12, 1944, in Frankfort, Kansas. Prior to moving to Topeka in 1951, Catherine was employed at Glynn’s Grocery Stores in Frankfort and Emmett where she met “Rog”. In Topeka, Catherine was employed at the Palace Clothing Company where she had many loyal customers and also Gibb’s Clothing Store until her retirement. She was a member of Assumption Parish in Topeka.Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, in 1984, and her daughter, Linda, in 1965. Catherine is survived by her daughter Nancy Humes and son-in-law Bob of Topeka, sons Larry Howell of Topeka and Ken Howell of Overland Park; three grandchildren, Tonia, Melissa and Robert, and four great-grandchildren. Catherine took great pride in her beautiful yard and flowers but it was her dedication and devotion to her family and her faith that gave her strength, never complaining, even in the most difficult of times.Memorial contributions may be given to Catholic Charities and sent in care of the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Street, Topeka, Kansas 66603.
