John F. Habiger

December 31, 1921 — August 26, 2007

John F. Habiger, 85, Topeka, passed away Sunday, August 26, 2007 at St. Francis Medical Center.

 

He was born December 31, 1921 in Spearville the son of John J. and Anna Kramer Habiger.  John farmed in the Spearville community until 1955 when he moved to Topeka.  He worked at the E. I. Du Pont Company for twenty-six years before he retired in 1983.

 

John was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council #534.

 

He was married to Rosemary Hund on April 22, 1950 in Newberry.  She survives.

Other survivors include:  three daughters, Janet Habiger-Kennedy and husband Curt of Cary, North Carolina, Mary Ann McCullough of Olathe, and Carol Chastain and husband Jim of Shawnee, Kansas; a brother Ed Habiger of San Jose, California and a sister Anna Mae Hund of Wichita; Seven Grandchildren: Jennifer, Crystal, Eric, Brian, Rachel, Amanda and Michael and Five Great Grandchildren: Will, Kenny, Kylie, Noah and Luke.  John was preceded in death by a son-in-law Ken McCullough, a brother Joseph Habiger and a sister Vincentia Habiger.

 

Mr. Habiger will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Thursday after 4:30 p.m. where a Knights of Columbus Council #534 Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. 

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church or to the Guardian Angel Foundation and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 West Sixth St., Topeka, Kansas  66603.
