Isidoro G. Torres

Isidoro G. Torres, 53, of Topeka, died August 5, 2007 after a short illness.

 

He was born May 9, 1954 in Las Piedras, Puerto Rico the son of Julia Gonzales.

Isidoro came to New Britain, Connecticut from Puerto Rico at the age of seven.

He attended Washburn University and graduated from Topeka Technical College in 2001.

 

Isidoro was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam Era.   

 

He was a Computer Technician for the State of Kansas Department of Commerce and had previously worked for Essex Wire. 

 

Isidoro will be remembered for his love of music and computers and doing Tae Kwon Do martial arts.  He especially enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.

 

Mr. Torres was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.

 

He married Carol A. Gomez in Topeka, Kansas on July 20, 1974.  She survives.  He is also survived by three daughters:  Sonya Torres and Marcus Jones the father to grandson Marcus and granddaughter Mya Jones of Topeka, Silvie Koerth and husband Aaron and grandson Xavier and granddaughter Lauren Koerth of Topeka, and Julie Torres of Topeka.  Other survivors include his mother Julia Gonzales of New Britain, Connecticut, four sisters-in-law of Topeka, one sister-in-law of California, nine nieces and nephews and two great nephews.

 

Mr. Torres will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.  A Prayer Service will be said at 6:30 pm.  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
