Michael L. Burghart, 59, of Topeka, died August 1, 2007 at Midland Hospice House. Michael was born July 27, 1948, in Topeka, the son of Jacob F. and Mary M. Hefner Burghart. He attended Holy Name Grade School and graduated from Hayden High School in 1966. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. Mike was employed by Santa Fe Railroad for 24 years and USD #437 Auburn Washburn School District for 12 years. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 6 years as a Medic. He married Virginia Hertlein in 1973, they were married for 17 years. He married Pamela Winter in 1994 and they were married for 8 years. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include one son, Michael Burghart Jr. of Kansas City and one daughter, Beth Ann Erb and husband Tory of Bentonville, AR. One brother Daniel Burghart of Topeka and one sister Beverly Parks and husband Joe of Topeka. Two step-sons, Eric and Chuck and one step-daughter, Chelaice and five step-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mike will lie in state at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home after 2:00 p.m. on Sunday where the family will receive friends from 2-5 p.m. with a Parish Rosary recited at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care Inc., or to Christ the King Catholic Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
