Robert F. Hoefer

Robert F. Hoefer, 86, of Topeka, passed away Sunday, May 27, 2007 at a local retirement home.  He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army Air Corps.  He was attached to the 468th Bombardment Group and was a radar operator on B29’s.  He flew aboard the “Lady be Good”.   For twenty-five years Bob owned and operated R and B Aircraft where he was an aviation mechanic.  He was the recipiant of the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award, which recognizes lifetime accomplishments in aviation mechanics of over fifty years. He was an avid golfer and bowler and a member of Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Hoefer was born in Albany, New York on October 8, 1920, the son of Florian Hoefer and Margaret Mohr.  He was married to LaVeda May Felder on October 21, 1944 in Lincoln, Nebraska.  He preceded him in death October 7, 2001. Survivors include a son, Gregory Dean Hoefer and his wife Pam, Topeka; a daughter, Bobbi Hicks and her husband Robert, Topeka; a brother, John Hoefer, living in New York; four sisters, Catherine Hoefer, Rose Olsey, Mary Stanton and Dorothy Storms, all in New York;  five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Robert Hoefer will be in repose after 2:00 o’clock Wednesday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a rosary will be recited by the parish at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Reverend George Bertels Thursday morning at 10:00 o’clock at Sacred Heart Church.  Interment with military honors will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery.   Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Church and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 West Sixth, Topeka 66603.
