Marie L. Mendez

Marie L. Mendez, 81, Topeka, passed away Friday, May 18, 2007 at her home.

Marie was employed at Memorial Hospital for many years before she retired.

She was born July 28, 1925 in Topeka the daughter of John C. and Magdelene Gerling Gerhardt.  Marie attended Sacred Heart School.

Mrs. Mendez was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

She was married to Frank C. "Brownie" Mendez on January 9, 1960 in Lawrence.  He preceded her in death on October 13, 2003.  Marie was also preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Antonina M. Kamer, and a brother, John Gerhardt, Jr.

Survivors include:  two stepdaughters, Linda Perry and her husband Charles of Buna, TX and Gloria Ferguson and her husband Jim of Dallas, TX.  Seven step grandchildren, thirteen step great-grandchildren and twelve nieces and nephews also survive.

Mrs. Mendez will be in repose from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Monday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a parish rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Cremation will follow the service with inurnment at a later date in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
