Louise G. Serna

Louise G. Serna, 84, of Topeka, passed away late Monday, May 14, 2007 at Midland Hospice.

Mrs. Serna was employed in the Housekeeping Department of Memorial Hospital until her retirement.  She was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and the Mijuel Hidalgo Club.

She was born in Woodward, OK on January 12, 1923, the daughter of Feliciano Gutierrez and Lola Paul Gutierrez.  She was married to Lawrence G. Serna in Emporia in 1956.  He preceded her in death in 2002.

Survivors include one son, Bobby Fernandez, Olathe; seven daughters, Joan Cedillo, Sonja Hernandezz and Patra Fernandez all of Emporia; Debbie Serna, San Diego, CA; Laura Watson, Duncanville, TX; Mercedes and Annette Serna, both of Topeka; three step-daughters, Rita Dobrzynski, Fairlawn, NJ, Delores Zarazua, Bellwood, IL and Anita Mendoza, Brookfield, IL; one step-son, Larry Serna, Cooper City, FL; two brothers, Joel and Pablo Gutierrez both in Emporia; thirty grandchildren, thirty-seven great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.

Mrs. Serna was preceded in death by three sisters, Frances Perez, Rebecca Delgado and Rachel Skalitzky and two brothers, Pete and Manuel Gutierrez.

Louise Serna will be in repose at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home after 2:00 p.m. Thursday where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalup Church.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice Care, Inc. and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 SW 6th, Topeka, 66603.
