Harry J. Nagy

Harry John Nagy, 62, of Topeka, passed away Thursday March 29, 2007 at Midland Hospice House. Dr. Nagy was professor of physics and astronomy at Washburn University for thirty years before he retired.  He previously had taught at the University of Missouri at Columbia and Southwest Minnesota State College in Marshall, MN.  Dr. Nagy served as chairman of the department on two different occasions while teaching at Washburn. He authored a number of scientific journal articles.   After his retirement he bought and sold antique glassware. He was born on May 4, 1944 in St. Louis, MO the son of Harry Frank and Catherine Marie Gandini Nagy.  Dr. Nagy received a Bachelor of Arts degree, Masters Degree of Science and a PhD in Nuclear Physics all from the University of Missouri in Columbia. Dr. Nagy was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, the American Physical Society and the American Association of Physics Teachers.  Harry served as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Harry was united in marriage to Judith Lee Torline on August 20, 1966 in Newton.  She survives. Other survivors include; one son, Christopher Joseph Nagy and his wife Michelle of Waseca, MN, three daughters; Catherine Lynne Nagy and her husband Gregg Gibson of Falls Church, VA, Genevieve Anne Del Rosario and her husband Francis of Roeland Park, and Anastasia Elizabeth Tindell and her husband Brian of Mission, and a brother, David H. Nagy and his wife Donna of Louisiana, MO.  Eight grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends also survive. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.  Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  Dr. Nagy will be in repose after 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a parish rosary will be prayed at 4:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Most Pure Heart of Mary Grade School or the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the funeral home.
