Teresa Olivia Mendoza Ortiz, of Topeka, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 7, 2007 in the emergency room of a local hospital.She was 69. Teresa was a social worker for the Head Start Program and was employed part-time at Rosa’s Restaurant prior to her retirement. She was born in Topeka on October 1, 1937 the daughter of Victoriano Mendoza and Rosa Guerrero Mendoza. Mrs. Ortiz was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church and LULAC. She was devoted to her children and raised her family of five by herself. Surviving are the five children, twin sons Arthur and Anthony Ortiz; three daughters, Roseanna Haugen, Kathy Paredes and Monica Zarazua all of Topeka, two brothers, Arsenino and Rodolfo Mendoza, both of Topeka, and two sisters, Juanita “Jennie” Barron, Topeka and Evelia “Valie” Rojas, Watsonville, California. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and her beloved dog, Rusty. A brother, Arthur Mendoza, preceded her in death. Teresa Ortiz will be in repose after 2:00 o’clock Friday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the parish will recite the rosary at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday morning at 11:00 o’clock at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kansas Dialysis Center and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 West Sixth, Topeka 66603.
