Jesus S. Zarazua, 77, of Topeka, passed away early Saturday morning at his home, surrounded by his family.
Mr. Zarazua was a “people-person”, making a friend of every stranger. He often acted as a translator for Spanish speaking people, and was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe parish.
He worked for the Kansas Industries for the Blind from 1973 until 2000. He was previously employed by the Santa Fe Railway for twenty-seven years.
He was born February 11, 1930 in Duluth, Kansas the son of Jose Zarazua and Esther Servantez Zarazua. He was married to Victoria Arevalo on January 18, 1961 in Silao, GTO, Mexico. She survives at the home.
Other survivors include two sons, Armando A. and his wife Elizabeth Zarazua, Neosho, Missouri and Javier A. Zarazua, Topeka; one daughter, Monica and husband Michael Chavez, Topeka; six brothers, John and Benjamin, Topeka, Jose, Bellwood, Illinois, Daniel, Guadalupe and Ralph, all of Topeka; three sisters, Linda Anguiano, Irene Flores and Elvira Zarazua, all of Topeka; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Many nieces and nephews, who so loved their Uncle Jesus, also survive.
Jesus was preceded in death by a brother, Ruben and beloved sister, Delores.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 o’clock Thursday morning at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
Jesus Zarazua will be in repose after 4:00 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Church where a recitation of the rosary by the parish will be at 7:00 p.m.
