Alvena K. Hollandsworth, 85, of Topeka, died Sunday, January 28, 2007 at Lexington Park. She was born in Winchester, Kansas August 7th, 1921 the daughter of Eugene and Carline Schutte Beying. Mrs. Hollandsworth was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church. She married Cecil E. Hollandsworth on May 4, 1944 and they lived in St. Louis, Missouri until their son, Douglas was born. In 1955 they moved to Winchester, Kansas where they lived until the death of her husband in 1978. She then moved to Topeka in 1979 where she lived the remaining years of her life. Alvena worked at the VA Hospital in Leavenworth, Kansas until she retired in 1977. Survivors include her son, Douglas of Topeka, a sister, Winifred Walstrom of Topeka and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home from 5 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 31, 2007. Inurnment of her ashes will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in Easton. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Lawrence Catholic Church Cemetery Fund or the Helping Hands Humane Society in Topeka and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 SW 6th, Topeka, 66603.
