Aarey Jean Jackson

Aarey Jean Jackson, age 75, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Excel Nursing and Rehab in Topeka.

She was born the daughter of Emerson and Evelyn (Peer) Stamps on October 28, 1947, in Detroit, MI.

Aarey was raised in the Baptist church and recently became a member and attended Highland Park UMC. She loved to read, sing, listen to music and cross stitch. She was an avid sports follower, always cheering on her beloved KC Chiefs and KU Jayhawks. Aarey always had a soft spot for caring for others. This passion helped her as she worked as an LPN for 40 years. Between the love of her family, she had a deep appreciation for black history and heritage and was known by her family as the “Family Recorder.”

Survivors include her two beloved daughters, Jeanette Simmons and Angela Woods; five grandchildren, Joshua L. Carter, Kylesse M. Simmons, Imani J. Simmons, Caletta G. Harris, and Aarey L. Harris. Other survivors include her siblings, Estella Owens, Emerson Stamps, Jr., (Alda), Stephanie Hudspeth (Richard), Anita Stamps, Toni Stamps as well as a loving extended family that includes many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She will be dearly missed.

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, from 10-11:00 A.M., at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.

A memorial service will follow at 11:00 A.M., at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at Topeka Cemetery.
