Alberta Gutierrez

Alberta Gutierrez, age 90, of Topeka, KS, passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, February 1, 2022, in Topeka.

She was born the daughter of Gonzalo and Avelina (Ramirez) Romero on April 8, 1931, in Lawrence, KS.

Alberta married Hesus O. Gutierrez on May 12, 1962, in Lawrence, KS. Together, they shared 35 years of marriage. He preceded her in death on April 1, 1998.

She was a devout Catholic and member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Her faith was the upmost importance to her. Alberta enjoyed cooking, sewing, having phone conversations with family and friends, watching EWTN and having her daily walks. In her younger years, she volunteered her time to Fiesta Mexicana. Spending time with family brought her the greatest joy.

Alberta is survived by her two sons, David Gutierrez, Richard Gutierrez and his wife Donna; two grandchildren, Tyla and Isaac Gutierrez; three brothers, Pedro Romero and his wife Ana, Ricky Romero and his wife Sue, Omar Romero and his wife Sharon; five sisters, Valentina Guerrero, Teresa Martinez and her husband Fred, Phyllis Gutierrez, Lorrie Alcala and her husband Sluggo, Becky Stephens and her husband Richard. She also leaves behind a loving extended family that includes many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She will be dearly missed.

Alberta is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hesus Gutierrez; four brothers, Frank, Tony, Joe, and Guadalupe Romero; and one sister, Juanita Hernandez.

Rosary will be held at 4:00 P.M., followed by visitation until 8:00 P.M., on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka. Family kindly asks those in attendance, to please wear a mask for the visitation and services.

Memorial contributions can be made in Alberta's loving memory to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
