Early Sunday morning, October 17, 2021, we lost a hero, grandfather, father, friend, uncle, and brother, Anastasio Montez Muñoz “Fish," at the age of 89. As our hearts ache that he is gone, there is relief he’s not fighting or hurting anymore and can finally be at peace with the love of his life, Clara D. Muñoz.
Fish was born the son of Roque and Nicholasa (Montez) Muñoz on April 25, 1932, in Topeka, KS.
He was united in marriage to Clara Deloris Mendoza on May 23, 1964, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Clara passed away on December 8, 2012, after 48 years of marriage.
Fish retired as a Foreman with the Topeka Street Department after 26 years of employment. He was proud to work through the ranks and retire as a Foreman.
He was a simple man with a heart of gold and love like no other. He was an accepting presence in a room full of strangers, he was the hand you held tightly while you faced your fears, he was a strong hug when you felt you could no longer stand on your own.
Fish was welcomed into death by his mother, Nicholasa Montez, his father, Roque Muñoz, and brothers and sisters who have passed on, and his loving wife, Clara D. Muñoz, with open arms. He is survived by three daughters whom he loved and protected dearly; Juanita (West) Muñoz, Bianca (Bouton) Muñoz, and Anastasia Muñoz. Fish also has 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who he would do anything and everything for. Nothing was ever too much, and he never gave the bare minimum, it was all or nothing. The hardest working man we’ve ever known is finally able to put his aching hands to rest. Fish was 89 years old and lived a life of love, adventure, Chiefs football games, Royals baseball games, westerns, and Clint Eastwood movies.
We will have Fish’s viewing at Brennan-Mathena Funeral home on Monday, October 25, 2021, after 2:00 P.M., with family present from 5-8:00 P.M. A parish rosary will be held at 6:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
