Antonio “Nuno” Romero, Jr., 80, of Topeka, KS died Sunday, June 27, 2021 shortly after attending mass.
He was born February 2, 1941 in Topeka the son of Antonio, Sr., and Francisca (Hernandez) Romero.
He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, Nate Morales Chapter #11777 of the Knights of Columbus and San Juan Diego Council #3452 of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He served in the US Navy during the start of the Vietnam War.
Nuno was an Industrial Mechanic at Langendorf Bakery and retired from Hostess Bakery. He currently was doing janitorial work at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church along with Crestview United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his children, Gilbert Martinez, Linda Martinez, Lupe Hale, Frances Romero, Erin Massengale, and Nathan Romero. Other survivors include his siblings, Salvador (Pilar) Romero, Virginia Romero, Lucille (James) Walker and Robert (Martha) Romero. Two half-sisters, Angelina (Guillermo) Peart and Rosa Gutierrez, a half-brother Cruz Romero, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Francisca Romero, a son, Roger Romero, a sister, Genevieve Romero Neal and a half-brother, Patricio Romero.
Nuno will lie in state after 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 5, 2021 at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where the Knights of Columbus and the Legion of Mary will pray the rosary at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Cremation will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made in Nuno’s memory to Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Avenue, Topeka, KS 66603.
