Barbara Farrell, age 88, passed away November 7, 2018 in Ft. Worth, Texas. Barbara was born on September 6, 1930 in Manhattan, Kansas. She was the daughter of May Christine Krause Bleam Ruwe and Jonathan Newton Bleam. Barbara had a loving younger brother Kendall L. Bleam, who preceded her in death. She attended grade school and high school in Manhattan, KS. On October 2, 1946, she married Bernard Glenn Farrell. Over the years, they made their home in Topeka, Overland Park, and Olathe, KS. Barbara and Glenn had two sons, Stephen (deceased) and David. Glenn passed away suddenly in 1987.
Barbara worked for Kansas Power & Light, the Menninger Foundation, and Johnson County Court. She volunteered many hours at Most Pure Heart Catholic Church. She was the secretary and member of NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees), and a member of three senior bowling leagues. In December of 1991 she married Ronald E Joy in Topeka, KS. They enjoyed bowling and traveling. Ron passed in 1994. In 1996, Barbara moved to Ft Worth, TX to be close to her son and his family. Barbara was a loving, giving, disciple of our Lord in heaven.
Survivors include: one son, David Farrell (Kathie) of Ft. Worth, TX; three step-daughters: Linda Jackson, Donna Claspill, and Karen Hohmann, and one step-son, Bob Joy; 5 grandchildren: Michael Farrell, Kristy Farrell, Erica Farrell, Heike Johns, and Heidi Domer; 7 great grandchildren; and 17 nephews and nieces.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 3601 SW 17th Street, Topeka Kansas, Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 801 SW Westchester, Topeka, Kansas. Visitation is Monday, November 12 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Street, Topeka, Kansas.
