Beatrice “Bea” Jaramillo King, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister and friend to many, passed away at her home on Friday, October 16, 2020 in Topeka at the age of 88.
Bea was born the daughter of Pedro and Santos (Gonzalez) Jaramillo on May 10, 1932 in Topeka, KS.
She was a graduate from Topeka High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree at Washburn University.
In May of 1953, Bea married James D. King in Topeka, KS. He preceded her in death.
Bea was of the Catholic faith and a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was active with the church as a Lector, Perpetual Adoration Chapel and Praying the Rosary. She loved the guitar, cooking and baking, art and rooting for her Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas University Jayhawks. Spending time with her family especially, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren made her truly happy.
A special thank you to her dear grandchildren, Yolanda and Doug (Bucky) for all the care they provided. They were Grandma’s angels.
Survivors include her two sons, James H. King and his wife Loretta, Vincent King; four daughters, Debbie King, Kathy King, Genevieve King, Marie Landry as well as many grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jesus Jaramillo, Johnny Jaramillo, Joseph Jaramillo; one sister, Delores Ortiz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James D. King; two sons, Richard J. King and Thomas G. King; three brothers, Cecilio, Julian and Lupe Jaramillo and one sister, Rita Jaramillo.
Bea will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home after 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 with the family being present from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 P.M. at the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 201 NE Chandler St., Topeka, KS 66616, October 22, at 10:00 A.M. Cremation will follow the services and private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka.
Memorial contributions can be made in Bea’s loving memory to Topeka LULAC Senior Center, 1502 NE Seward Ave., Topeka, KS 66616 and/or the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Rd., Topeka, KS 66604. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
