Bernard “Bernie” W. Schroeder, age 82, of Topeka, KS went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 8, 2019. He was born on October 24, 1936 in Topeka, KS the son of Benjamin and Cecelia (Boss) Schroeder. Bernie served in the Kansas National Guard 35th Infantry Div., 69th Infantry BDE and United States Army 5th Infantry Div. Mech. He retired with over 32 years of service as Captain in the Medic Corps. He was a member of Grace Bible Church and American Legion Capital Post #1. He worked for the Santa Fe as a carman and later a mechanical supervisor, retiring with 36 years of service. Bernie married Roseann M. Guth on April 12, 1958 in Topeka. Together, they shared 61 years of marriage. She survives of the home. Survivors also include his three children, Joyce (Bobby) Potter of Topeka, Paula (Phil) Haner of Jefferson City, MO, Mark (Melissa) Schroeder of Shawnee, KS; four sisters, Lois Schardin of Minneapolis, MN, Shirley (Chester) Phillips of Topeka, Carol (Bill) Hodges of Novato, CA, Teresa (Bobby) Tinoco of Topeka; 10 grandchildren and 2 great-granddaughters. Bernie was preceded in death by his son, Michael; daughter, Jean Malin; sisters, Mary Foley and Barbara Bolyard. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, July 13 from 9:30 – 11:00 A.M. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 A.M. all at Grace Bible Church, 4021 SE 37th St., Topeka, KS 66605. Inurnment will follow with military honors provided by the Army National Guard and American Legion at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
