Bibiana Andrea "Andy" Tetuan, age 97, lifelong Oakland community member, passed away on March 5, 2023, at Plaza West Care Center in Topeka.
She was born the daughter of Pedro Ignacio and Leonarda Vasquez on November 27, 1925, in Topeka, KS. Andy as she was best known as, married Michael Tetuan, Sr., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Michael passed away on November 10, 1975.
Andy was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. She was active in the Altar Society, volunteering for the Fiesta Mexicana and Legion of Mary. In her early years, Andy sang in the church choir. Her faith was of the utmost importance, and she would pray the rosary religiously, everyday at 3:00 P.M. For many years, she worked at the family restaurant, Lucky 5 Restaurant in Oakland, alongside her husband Michael. She will be remembered for being a kind, generous person and a source of counsel. When it came to her cooking, Andy would say, “If you left her table hungry, you didn’t want to eat.”
Survivors include her daughter, Guadalupe Martinez and her husband Michael; son, Alfred Tetuan; 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandsons, with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Michael Tetuan, Sr.; daughter, Mary Virginia Ortiz; sons, Michael Tetuan, Jr., Ricardo Tetuan, and Jose Ignacio Tetuan; as well as six siblings.
Andy will lie in state on Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 9:30 A.M. until 10:30 A.M., followed by a parish rosary at 10:30 A.M., at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M., at the church. Cremation will follow after the services. Andy will be laid to rest next to her husband, Michael at Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
Memorial contributions can be made in Andy's memory to Midland Hospice and/or Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Contributions can be left or mailed to the funeral home.
