Bill J. Adkins

Bill J. Adkins, age 85, of Topeka, KS, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Topeka Presbyterian Manor. 

He was born the son of Homer J. and Daisy (Johns) Adkins on May 29, 1938, at Fort Riley, KS. 

After graduating from high school, Bill started his 55-year career as an Offset Pressman in Topeka. It was a career he enjoyed and took great pride in his dedication to the job. On September 21, 1963, Bill married Linda L. Haug at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. They just celebrated 60 years of marriage. 

Bill was a member of Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church. He loved to fish, attend car shows and in his younger years, he enjoyed bowling and drag racing in the 1950’s and 60’s. One of greatest passions and accomplishments was restoring a 1941 Chevy Coupe. From a complete rust bucket to brand new, Bill took several years crafting his beloved Coupe. A cherished item the family will continue to enjoy. His family meant the world to him, and he will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his beloved wife, Linda; son, Steve Adkins and his wife Kay; daughter, Staci Osterholm and her husband Mark. Other survivors include his four grandchildren, Rachel Pladies and her husband Justin, Austen Adkins, Lauren Osterholm, and Cole Osterholm; as well as a half-sister, Sharon Kay Evinger. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Deanna Stone, and June Dempsey. 

Memorial visitation will take place on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 2:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., followed by a rosary at 3:00 P.M. A memorial service will follow at 3:30 P.M., all at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Mt. Calvary Cemetery-Topeka. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Bill’s memory to Mother Teresa of Calcutta Catholic Church and/or Midland Care Hospice. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
