Carolyn Kaberline, 72, of Topeka, died December 17, 2020 at the Promise House of Overland Park.
She was born in Topeka, Kansas on January 17, 1948 the daughter of Leonard and Betty Jane (Hladky) Kaberline.
Carolyn attended grade school at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic School, graduated from Hayden High School, received her Bachelors Degree from Kansas State University in Journalism and received her Master’s Degree from Baker University in Curriculum and Instruction.
She taught for 41 years at Perry Lecompton High School in Language Arts and Journalism and four years at Mater Dei Middle School. Carolyn was a free lance reporter for NE Publications and a staff writer for the Topeka Capital Journal and contributor to the Leaven as well as numerous Equine Publications.
Carolyn raised and showed Quarter Horses and was very involved with the Kansas Quarter Horse Association. She was a leader with Shunga Valley 4-H, Astronomy Club, and a member of the Star Trek Group in Lawrence, Kansas.
Carolyn was a lifelong member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church.
She is survived by two brothers, Steven (Paula) Kaberline of Farmington Hills, MI, and Kevin (Cheri) Kaberline of McPherson, as well as a great circle of friends, fellow teachers and former students. She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Betty Jane, whom she cared for up to their final days.
Carolyn will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. A Parish Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Catholic Charities and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
