Charles Edward Hackett

April 4, 1933 — January 8, 2020

Charles Edward Hackett, 86, of Topeka, Kansas, passed away January 8, 2020 at is home. Charles was born on April 4, 1933 in Perry, Kansas, son of James and Pauline Hujing Hackett.

Charles graduated from Perry Rural High School in 1951. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1961. He married the love of his life, Vera Hulsing in Topeka on October 4, 1958.

After serving he went to work for Fleming Foods Company. From running the forklift, to stocking products, he was the doer of all jobs. After retiring he found a love for many different hobbies. He loved to go to garage sales and find odd tools to add to his extensive collection. He also loved to collect coins. Farming and putting up hay were also hobbies he took great pride in. But one thing that outweighed his love for all those things, was his grandchildren. He was their biggest fan and they were his happiness. Charles loved to spoil them and share his appreciation of Snickers and chocolate donuts with them as well.

Charles is preceded in death by both of his parents, his sister, Ann Barnard, and an infant son Nicholas Hackett.

He is survived by his wife of over 61 years, Vera; sons, Shawn Hackett and Brian Hackett; daughter, Lori Kloss; brothers, James Hackett and John Hackett; sister Kathleen Hackett; grandchildren, Camille (Andrew) Ulrich, Jordan (Conner) Christenson, Emily Montgomery, Austin (Stephanie) Hackett, Mikayla (Billy) Bauer, Courtney Hackett, Molly Hackett, and Kolby Hackett; and great grandchildren, Taytum Christenson, Sophia Ulrich, Brantley Hackett, and Payton Ulrich; as well as a host of extended family.
