Darrell Paul Wallace, 82, of Berryton, Kansas passed away on Tuesday, May 30th, 2023 at The University of Kansas Hospital St. Francis Campus in Topeka.
Darrell was born on November 13, 1940 in Emporia, Kansas, and was the son of Roy Edward and Bessie Belle (Burton) Wallace. He graduated from Emporia High School in 1959. Darrell served in the US Army until 1965, and then he began working for the Santa Fe Railway, where he held several positions. For most of his career, he worked as a Clerk for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe in the Topeka office and retired after 43 years of dedicated service.
Darrell married Darla Kay Dryden on December 13, 1959 and celebrated over 63 years together. Darrell is survived by Darla. Other survivors include three sons, Darren Wallace and his wife Deborah of Baldwin City, KS; Douglas Wallace and his wife Charlene of Topeka, KS; Daniel Wallace of Topeka; his brother, Clifford Wallace and his wife Carol of Lawrence, KS; his grandchildren, Derek Wallace and his wife Savannah, Dustin Wallace and his wife Lexie, David Wallace, Trenton Wallace, Kayden Wallace, Deven Wallace, Dylan Wallace, and Dayton Wallace.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Imogene Wyatt.
Darrell enjoyed activities with his children and grandchildren, including camping, fishing, and canoeing. He also participated in a bowling league with his friends from work. Darrell took pride in maintaining his lawn and always had a large vegetable garden and was known for his salsa. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and belonged to the BNSF Railroad Union.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00pm, Sunday, June 4th, 2023 at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm, Monday, June 5th, 2023 at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery in Topeka.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, and be sent in care of the funeral home.
