David Ison

Berryton

David Lee Ison, 81, of Berryton, passed away on Thursday, July 4, 2024, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, KS. 

He was born November 24, 1942, in Pleasanton, KS, the son of Morris Ison and Carol Nadine (Hall) Ison. David graduated from Mound City High School in 1960 and earned a bachelor's degree from Pittsburgh State University in 1964. 

David married Glenda Goebel in 1962. They later divorced. 

David worked as a Certified Internal Auditor for the United States Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) from 1964 until 1972. He worked for the Department of Administration as an accountant from 1972 until he retired in 2001. He owned and operated Ison Tax Service from the early 1970’s until 2012. 

David was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed cattle and hay operations. Watching Kansas Jayhawk basketball and the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals brought him joy as long as they were winning. Going to farm auctions, tending to a large garden and completing word search puzzles were activities that he enjoyed. He treasured his time traveling with his wife Lois especially the cruises to Alaska and the Panama Canal. David was a member of the Berryton United Methodist Church and the Kiwanis Club. 

He married Lois Schmitz Webb on November 10, 1990, in Edwards, CO. She survives of the home. 

Other survivors include sons, Michael Ison and wife Catherine of Lawrence, KS, Eric Ison and wife Diane of Irvine, CA; stepson, Jason Webb and husband Jason Boman of Overland Park, KS; brother, Marty Ison and wife Meredith of Mound City, KS; grandchildren, Michaela Wisdom and husband Xavien of Lawrence, KS, Carter Ison of Starkville, MS, Kylie Ison of Dallas, TX, and Jackson Webb of Overland Park, KS; numerous nieces and nephews; and Glenda Ison of Irvine, CA. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 9 from 9:30am to 10:30am, at the Berryton United Methodist Church, with a funeral service at 10:30am. 

Interment will be in Lynn Creek Cemetery in Berryton, KS. 

Memorial contributions can be made to Midland Hospice, sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave. Topeka, KS 66603.
