Dolores A. Bacon

Dolores Ann (Melchior) Bacon, passed away on Friday evening, July 19, 2024, in Topeka, KS. 

She was born on February 4, 1941, in Topeka, the daughter of Jacob John Melchior, Sr. and Laura Catherine (Weigel) Melchior. Dolores graduated from Hayden High School in 1959.

She retired from Southwestern Bell in 1991, after 31 years of service. Dolores was a long-time member of the American Legion Post #400 Auxiliary, and the St. Francis Hospital Auxiliary. 

Survivors include a son, Mark Bacon (Amanda) of Junction City, KS; three daughters, Brenda Harris (Chad), Barbara Waterman, and Rhonda Bacon all of Topeka, KS; 12 grandchildren; and 26 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, The Reverend Thomas Melchior of Topeka; and two sisters, Cecilia Clickner of Zepherhills, FL, and Laura Habig of Topeka. 

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Jake Melchior, Jr.

She will lie in state from 5-8:00 P.M., on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., on Friday, July 26, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 227 SW Van Buren St., Topeka, KS 66603. Burial will follow at Half Day Cemetery, 3040 NW 62nd St., Topeka, KS 66618.

The family kindly requests no flowers. Memorial contributions can be made in Dolores’s memory to American Legion Post #400, 3029 US-24, Topeka, KS 66618 and/or Ascend Hospice, 5020 Bob Billings Parkway, Lawrence, KS 66049. Contributions can be mailed or left with the funeral home.
