Edward Garica Alvarez, age 88, of Topeka, KS, passed away at The University of Kansas Health System-St. Francis Campus on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
Edward was born the son of Louis and Soccora (Garcia) Alvarez on October 13, 1934, in Firebaugh, CA. On May 31, 1958, he married Esperanza Chavez in Riverside, CA. They shared 56 years of marriage before her passing on June 21, 2014.
Edward started his career with the Santa Fe Railroad. He held different positions including a Carman throughout his 42 years of employment. He was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Edwards hobbies included, woodworking, floral and vegetable gardening, playing checkers and board games. On a nice day, you could find him spending time at local parks, fishing, taking car rides and spending time at the beach. He loved his cats, helping other people, and loved his family dearly.
Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Alvarez; sister, Jessica Terry Perez; sister-in-law, Mary Chavez Garcia. Other survivors include a loving extend family of many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Marcello Alvarez, Antonia Alvarez, Mary Trujillo, Pat Alvarez, Isidra Perez; and two sister-in-laws, Pas Chavez Alvarez and Aurora Chavez Fanfar.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service with burial at Green Acres Cemetery in Bloomington, CA, will take place at a later time.
